Odds on Who Will Be the Chicago Bears Next Permanant Head Coach After Matt Eberflus Firing

The Chicago Bears announced they have fired Matt Eberflus following a sixth straight loss on Thanksgiving Day. 

Offensive coordinator Thomas Brown will take over on an interim basis, sources added.

Now we wait for the odds to be released on who the next permanent head coach of the Bears will be.  BetOnline should have them up soon.  It's not known where Brown will land on that list.

Kole Noble of A to Z Sports believes he Brown will rank high among the favorites.

This one should be obvious. In just three weeks, Thomas Brown went from being the Bears' passing game coordinator, to interim offensive coordinator, to interim head coach. You don't make those kind of jumps on the same staff unless the front office wants to see what he can do in the big chair leading an offense and now an entire organization.

Since taking over as the team's acting offensive coordinator on November 12th, multiple Bears' players have praised Brown's leadership and communication, including the most important voice in making this decision, rookie quarterback Caleb Williams.

It's doubtful BetOnline will make Brown the favorite.  The Bears, after all, keep losing....with Brown as offensive coordinator.

Justin Melo of the Draft Network lists Kliff Kingsbury, Commanders OC, Aaron Glenn, Lions DC and Ben Johnson, Lions OC among his favorites to be named the next Bears head coach.

Melo writes of Johnson:

Lions offensive coordinator Ben Johnson will be the hottest name on every coaching wishlist for a second consecutive coaching cycle. The Bears are incredibly familiar with his capabilities. Despite the Lions’ offense going cold in the second half, Johnson put on another play-calling clinic throughout Thursday's Thanksgiving triumph. This should finally be the offseason he agrees to leave Detroit.

Johnson is patiently awaiting the right opportunity to spread his wings. He could have questions regarding the Bears' ownership structure and general leadership. Still, could inheriting Williams as a franchise quarterback be enough to convince him Chicago is the best possible fit for his services? Few coaching vacancies will possess an enticing in-house solution at quarterback. Williams is an ace in the hole.

The Athletic's Adam Jahns believes Patriots former head coach Bill Belichick could be an option.

Hiring Belichick, 72, would be a jolt to the Bears. He is the greatest coach of all time, but his track record after Tom Brady left New England is questionable. Belichick had only one winning season after Brady bolted for Tampa Bay in 2020. Mac Jones, a first-round pick in 2021, didn’t develop into a long-term starter, while the Patriots also had a handful of bad draft classes toward the end of Belichick’s tenure.
